MANILA – Yeng Constantino (her actual name is Josephine Eusebio Constantino-Asuncion), 31, is a multi-award winning singer. Since 2016 she has also been a regular judge on ‘It’s Showtime’ ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’.

Her career started in 2006 when she won the title ‘Grand Star Dreamer’ in the first season of Pinoy Dream Academy. The format of this show is similar to Big Brother – a set of finalists would live inside the Academy for four months and be trained by guest teachers to be multimedia performers (Wikipedia).

Constantino is the youngest of five siblings and was born in Rizal. On Valentine’s Day of 2015 she married Victor Asuncion, a fellow musician and worship director at Victory Christian Fellowship in Tagaytay.

Her first album, which she launched under Star Music after winning the Pinoy Dream Academy, titled ‘Salamat’, received a ‘3x Platinum Record’ certification within a few months after it was released.

In 2007 her song ‘Hawak Kamay’ received the ‘Extremely Requested Videoke Song’ award at the 2nd IFM Pinoy Music Awards. ‘Hawak Kamay’ is a theme song for ‘Kasal Kasalo Kasli’, starring Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo. It received ‘Best Theme Song’ for the movie ‘Kasal Kasali Kasalo’ in the 32nd Metro Manila Film Festival and the ‘55th FAMAS Awards’.

Without a doubt 2007 was the best year ever for Yeng Constantino as she received numerous awards including, ‘Hitmaker of the Year’, ‘Breakthrough Artist’, ‘Best New Artist’, ‘Favourite New Artist’, and ‘Most Promising Female Recording/Concert Artist’.

Her music video ‘Chinito’, released in 2013, has already had 4.5 million hits on Youtube. It features Filipino actor Enchong Dee as Constantino’s love interest. ‘Chinito’ is the movie theme song for ‘Bride For Rent’, starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim. She received ‘Music Video of the Year’ at the PMPC Star Awards for Music 2013 for the song ‘Chinito’ and Star Cinema Online Awards 2014 ‘Favourite Star Cinema Movie Theme song’.

In 2014 Constantino released a music video ‘Ikaw’ which was a prenuptial song with her then fiancé Asuncion. It received Golden and Platinum awards for reaching 15,000 copies sold. The song ‘Ikaw’ also received ‘Song of the Year’ at the 28th Awit Awards 2015 and the 2015 PMPC Star Awards for Music and ‘Best Music Video’ at the Alta Media Icon Awards 2015.

In her recent post on her Facebook page, to mark her 13th year anniversary in the music industry, is a picture of her with her Dad ‘Mang Lito’ (as she fondly calls him). She thanks him for believing in her talent and potential and for teaching her to always be a good person. And for reminding her to be grateful, as only a few make it in the music industry.

Pa, salamat for teaching me to always be a good person at pag nakakalimot ako mabait kang nagpapaalala saking bumalik. Thank you, because from you I have learned to always be grateful dahil sabi mo nga “bihira yang nakakapasok sa industriya na yan kaya pagpahalagan mo”. Salamat!

Constantino also thanks her husband for being her strength, guide and security blanket.

To my Love @vcasuncion, salamat sa pagiging haligi at lakas ko ngayon. You give structure sa kalat kalat kong isipan. Thank you my Love.

She also acknowledges her family who have always been proud of her for supporting her when she makes songs and movies.

To my Family thank you na proud kayo sakin. Salamat!

She also adds that words will not be enough to thank her avid fans, ‘Yengster’, for listening to all her songs and wishes that they will share more tears and laughter through her songs.

And lastly she thanks God Almighty for giving her the songs to write.

At higit sa lahat sa Panginoon. You make everything worth it. Your love is always enough. Thank you for continuously healing me, loving me, pruning me and showering me with soooo much grace every day. Thank you for blessing me and surrounding me with the right people. Thank you for giving me the songs to write. I am grateful.  I know when all the spotlights are gone and my journey here is done yakap mo lang sapat na.

Happy 13th year sakin sa industry!
